    How to Build your Own Hospitality Point of Sale System. You can put together a point of sale system and save yourself a fair bit of money; it's much easier than you think! Moderate (Windows) computer skills are required, but let's face it, if you've been using a computer at home or office for the past 10 years, you should have that skill by now.


    Introduction


    A point of sale system is usually a combination of a touchscreen Windows computer, a point of sale software, a receipt printer and a cash drawer. Certain customers might have required add-ons such as: kitchen printer, kitchen display system, waiter pos etc..


    Kit required:


    To build a standard POS System you will need:

    - Any Windows XP, 7 or 8 computer, tablet or laptop (Touchscreen is a bonus).
    - A receipt printer. Epson printers are the most reliable and advanced printers in the market.
    - A cash drawer. Any standard cash drawer will work, recommended brands: HP, Nexa.
    - Point of Sale Software: SASSCO provide easy to use pos software for restaurants or cafes.

    Advanced POS System:


    If you have a 200+ seat restaurant that has a big kitchen, your requirements might vary and the need to build a bigger POS system arises. Here's what you will need:

    - Kitchen impact 2 ply printer: A network Epson printer. Best brand/model: Epson U220 Ethernet.
    - Kitchen or Coffee Display System: Any 10inch + touchscreen Windows tablet will do.
    - Waiter POS: Any 8 or 10inch windows tablet will work. Recommended: HP Stream 8.


    Putting it all together:


    First, install the POS software on your Windows computer (simple steps), then install the Epson receipt printer drivers. Connect your cash drawer directly to your receipt printer.

    For advanced users, you will need to buy a wireless access point and connect your main computer with the kitchen display system and waiter POS.
